What your contract should say

Holiday

At least four weeks a year, five until the age of 20. Five or six weeks are common and stand in the contract or collective agreement.

OR Art. 329a

Working hours

The contractual weekly hours stand in the contract or collective agreement; 42 are common in hospitals, 40 to 42 in practices. The legal maximum is 45 or 50 hours.

ArG Art. 9

13th month salary

Not required by law, but usual in hospitals, care homes and most practices. Whether it is paid stands in the contract; the annual pay counts, not the monthly.

Night and Sunday work

Temporary night work carries a 25 percent wage supplement, regular night work a 10 percent time credit. Temporary Sunday work carries a 50 percent wage supplement. Many collective agreements pay fixed hourly premiums on top.

Example at CHF 71'500 a year: about CHF 275 a day. A night shift with the 25 % supplement: CHF 344. A Sunday with the 50 % supplement: CHF 413.

ArG Art. 17b und 19

Pension fund

Above the entry threshold the occupational pension applies; the employer pays at least half of the contributions. Some pay more; that stands in the pension rules.

BVG Art. 66

Probation and notice

Probation lasts one month, at most three by contract, with seven days' notice. After that the first year of service carries one month, unless the contract or collective agreement says otherwise.

OR Art. 335b und 335c

Source and method

How it is calculated: your base is annualised by the number of payments and scaled to a full workload by the workload. The average is the middle of the reference range. With your years of experience the calculator spreads the range over 15 years: the start sits in the lower part, from 15 years in the upper, and the usual window covers thirty percent of the range. That is a model over the source, not a statistic of its own. "Up to … more" is the distance to the top of the range.

The employer check awards ten points: four for pay against the window for your experience, two for holiday, one for weekly hours, three for contract benefits. Twelve or thirteen payments of the same annual pay count the same. Every line names its rule. Employers and roles in the network are counted from the platform, as of today.

Reference figures from publicly available salary books, association recommendations, collective agreements and salary portals, as of 2026. They are orientation, not a promise: actual pay differs by canton, employer, workload and experience. Zurich, Geneva and Basel tend to lie above the national figures.

Reference dates: 2026, stated per profession.

All figures gross, before taxes, social contributions, health insurance premiums and living costs. The calculator runs in your browser; your entries are sent only when you ask a question, order the comparison by email or create a profile. Not legal or tax advice. Questions: hello@ritzl-gietz.ch.

Frequently asked

Where the figures come from, and what they mean.

From publicly available sources, as of 2026: the Swiss salary book as reported by trade portals, pay recommendations of professional associations and cantonal medical societies, collective agreements of public hospitals, and salary portals that evaluate reported wages. The source and date of every range are under "Source and method" at the end of the calculator. They are orientation, not a promise.

The range runs from starting out to experienced staff without a leadership role, at a full workload and gross. Without an entry, the middle of the range counts as the average. With your years of experience the calculator spreads the range over fifteen years: the start sits in the lower part, from fifteen years in the upper, and a usual window of thirty percent of the range surrounds the figure for your level. The calculator then shows how far your pay sits above or below that figure.

Ten points, each with its rule: four for pay against the window for your experience, two for holiday (four weeks is the law, five one above it, six the maximum), one for weekly hours, three for what else the contract offers, half a point per ticked benefit. Twelve or thirteen payments of the same annual pay count the same. The score rates your package, not the organisation as a whole.

"Up to … more" is the distance from your pay to the top of the reference range for your profession, which is what experienced staff earn according to the source. Not a promise, but a yardstick for the next conversation. Where a recognised further qualification exists, the calculator also shows the next profession's range. Anyone who wants to know what is realistic in their situation orders the comparison by email and asks for a call.

In hospitals, care homes and home care, night and weekend shifts are part of many positions; in practices, pharmacies and therapy mostly not. By law, temporary night work carries a 25 percent wage supplement and regular night work a 10 percent time credit; temporary Sunday work 50 percent. Many collective agreements pay fixed hourly premiums on top.

At least four weeks a year, five until the age of 20. Five or six weeks are above that and a real argument when two positions are level on pay.

No. The calculator runs in your browser and needs no account. Nothing is sent until you order the comparison by email or create a profile, and then only what is shown at that point.
