Calculator by Ritzl & Gietz
What is your hour worth? With the thirteenth salary and the holiday supplement.
Enter monthly pay, the number of salaries a year, weekly hours and holiday days. The calculator shows the hourly wage, the pay per hour actually worked, and the hourly rate an hourly contract with holiday supplement would have to state. The switch works the other way round.

How it is calculated
Every figure has a rule.
- Hourly wage
- monthly × salaries per year ÷ (weekly hours × 52)
- Per hour worked
- annual ÷ (weekly hours × (52 − holiday weeks))
- Hourly with holiday supplement
- hourly × (1 + holiday weeks ÷ (52 − holiday weeks))
- Monthly from hourly
- hourly × weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12
Frequently asked
What the law says about it.
Divide the annual pay by the annual hours. With CHF 6,000 times 13 and 42 weekly hours: 78,000 ÷ 2,184 = CHF 35.71 an hour. Leaving out the thirteenth salary understates the figure; taking the holidays out of the hours gives the pay per hour actually worked.
Anyone paid by the hour does not get paid holidays but a supplement on every hour: 8.33 percent for four weeks, 10.64 percent for five, 13.04 percent for six. The supplement has to be shown separately in the contract and on the payslip.
No, the law does not require it. It is however written into most collective agreements and staff regulations in healthcare and then counts as part of the pay, pro rata on joining or leaving during the year.
Usually 42 hours at full time; some cantons and employers have 41 or 41.5. The Labour Act allows at most 50 hours a week in healthcare (ArG Art. 9); anything above is overtime with a supplement or compensation.
